Project2Manage... hmm...

Just found this rather interesting web based project management tool called Project2Manage.
Looks suspiciously like an ActiveCollab / ProjectPier fork to me. Which concerns me as shouldn't they be offering their source code as per the terms of the HPL (Honest Public License)?

I was just informed of this as well. Keep in mind, I think the terms of the HPL mostly just say they have to give you a copy if you ask. So, try contacting them and asking for a copy and see what they say.

Yes of course, though i suppose the point i was trying to make was that unless you used ProjectPier or ActiveCollab before, you'd never realise that source code would be (in theory) available.
Rants aside, i think they could have done a much better job of it. The only major functional difference i have noticed is that they implemented an equivalent of Basecamp's Writeboard called "Spot2Jot".
Apart from that, its not very interesting.
I have contacted them and asked for a copy of their code. Also looked at their "spot2jot" and it actually seems like basically "add text file" hack that is floating around and is being considered for inclusion in the next release.
Its also not a bad idea for other people to contact them as well.
BTW - anyone interested can use an account I setup to check it out.

hm, username/password not valid.
They seem to have done a good job with their theme
Hey Kemie,
It did work, so either the administrators killed my account without informing me, or someone took advantage of the major security hole in their system and grabbed my account.

I created another one, but since the registration process is so quick I won't repost it. Message me if you are really that keen. At least they seem to have fixed a glaring security bug they had introduced.
Hi Ryan,
I am using projectpier as well, actually i was using activeCollab before too, about the Project2Manage, i don't think its a fork or ActiveCollab or ProjectPier, if they did such a fork it would had require a huge undertaking, because ProjectPier and is a self hosted solution (you download the file and install it on your own).
They could have a script to replicate the installation folder with the username, but i doubt that its fork, it would be pretty dumb to do so, without stating the origins of the code.
What you think ?
Actually, there are a few ways of manipulating the code to provide for multiple instances. You may also be aware of basejumpr, which is providing the same type of thing except that they are clear about their origins and have also contributed that code back to the community.
Also, my concern is not that they decided to make changes to the code and offer the service - but that they have decided not to acknowledge the origins of the code and I haven't heard back from them regarding my request to provide a copy of the source code. Which is a violation of the HPL. I am trying to be a bit patient, but its not looking good at this point.
