Dreamhost One-Click Installs
Submitted by Jolidog on Wed, 09/26/2007 - 11:38.
I've submitted a suggestion on the dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.com/) panel, It's still being reviewed so you can't vote for it yet.
But basicly I suggested that aC should be replaced with ProjecPier.
I don't know if they contact someone on ProjectPier to prepare the One-Click Installs or if they do it all in-house.
I'm guessing it won't be dificult to implement the "upgrade" from ac 0.7.1 to ProjectPier 0.8
Anyway with dreamhost now having 500.000 registerd domains I'm guessing it count's as publicity for ProjectPier if it get's accepted. :D
I currently have 3 installations of aC 0.7.1 on diferent domains.
Can't wait to have them all upgraded! :P
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jolidog for your suggestion. We haven't contacted anyone about including PP in a distribution or any hosting.
AFAIK the Dreamhost install was very popular with aC.

This is super important. I was actually going to mention it last night in a discussion about who to notify but got sidetracked in my comment. Dreamhost is incredibly popular and the one-click install thing is all about the open source solutions to any given problem. They will almost definitely support PP now that aC doesn't even offer a costless version.
w007 for making installing PP EVEN EASIER!
Dreamhost just dropped AC from their one-click installs because of the AC 1.0 release - it seems to me that this would be a good moment to get PP in.
I'll request it as well.
I just checked on the suggestions page and there was no suggestion to include ProjectPier! Even though their newsletter was acting SAD that aC went closed source and they could only replace it with dotProject (which is SO not the same thing!).
Anyway, I added a new suggestion (currently being reviews), so hopefully they will let it be on the lilst and we can all vote for it as much as possible.
To me it's a no-brainer, though it's possible they're worried about PP's long term viability or something... If we can get votes though they'd be crazy not to have it.
I put in a suggestion for it too, hopefully it will show up soon for voting. This is what I originally heard back from DH support:
Well, we've got our hearts set on dotProject right now, but if you're
really gunning for phpProject/ProjectPier then you're always welcome to
submit a suggestion for that in the Home > Suggestions section of your
panel. If there's enough customer interest in that particular project
then we'll take a serious look at including that. You're also more than
welcome to install ProjectPier to your own account (it certainly looks
freindly to our hosting environment ;).
Let's keep our fingers crossed. It looks easy enough for most current users to keep up to date, but it is great press to have it available for newbies. --chris
Hey everyone,
I didn't actually see this post till now, but I was in contact with Dreamhost when I saw that they dropped activeCollab. They replied to me that they had decided to offer dotProject instead, which I of course replied wasn't the same. But I was basically told the best way for us to get them to support it is to have lots of their users request and vote for it. So, GO REQUEST IT! =)
When I added the suggestion I made it explicit that PP was much closer to aC than dotProject (which will be overkill for 99% of people who wanted aC) and that it would work with whatever install scripts they were using for aC, so it would be easy. Hopefully they at least allow it as a suggestion when they see my post (weird that they'd stop if from being on the suggestion form, there are so many really weird ones there now that It's hard to believe they dont' think PP even has a chance. )
Requested it, I also checked the installation on Dreamhost and its almost "drag and drop". No configuring, etc...just plug-in the information needed and it sets itself up. Shouldn't take much scripting from the dreamhost side to add it as a one-click.
okay, i've also submitted a request.
