Howto: how to set your file permissions

Hi there,

The install file makes no mention of how to set file permissions. And just unpacking the install file doesnt automagically set the correct permissions. So ...
What are the preferred permissions?
What are the most secure permissions?
Which directories (or files) need to be executed or writable?
